A couple of excerpts from a Yahoo article:
A bill seeking 20-percent excise tax on soft drinks, energy drinks, and non-alcoholic carbonated beverages has been filed in the House of Representative. House Bill 5039 seeks to curb the excessive intake of such beverages, while raising up to P5 billion a year in added revenue from such products.
WTF? How much will Coke be by 2009?
On the other hand, Mitra said this is the best way to curb the consumption of soft drinks, whose excessive intake possess health hazards especially to children.
Ugh. Isn’t it enough that we get to pay 75-pesos-a-can in restaurants? Time to hoard some sodas.
